Our Varsity Lady Cougars volleyball team has rocked their season this year with a 10 and 1 record (losing one game by only 2 points), landing them #1 seed spot at State (held in Oxford on October 23-24th).
They entered the ACEA state tournament this weekend as a #1 seed, and lost their first game to Victory-Millbrook. They then fought their way out of the loser bracket, all the way to the championship game, which was no small feat! They played 2 games on Friday, one at 9:30 Saturday morning, then solid games from 11:30-4 Saturday, beating New Life, Trinity, Tabernacle, which led them to their final showdown against Tuscaloosa. No breaks, no meals. I’ve never seen a team dig so deeply. They gave it their all! Their final championship game against Tuscaloosa, they lost set one 28-26, lost set two 25-23, won set three 5-25 (!!!), and lost the final set four 15-25. Total points, they actually outscored the opponent in the championship match!
These ladies were like the energizer bunnies — they just kept going and going and going. They played together and gave it their all, even when I know their bodies were screaming to stop and rest! We are PROUD of you, Lady Cougars!!!
